Career path – Iida Vaara

Scroll down and discover what a Junior Automation Designer does at Pinja!

Pinja offers a good environment to learn new things

My name is Iida and I come from Rovaniemi. My work mainly includes electrical engineering design, but our team also cooperates closely with automation people.

At Pinja, I have had the possibility to take part in the design work for new constructions ranging from foundations to the completion of the plant. Design work covers both process and building electrification. In my job, I like particularly the fact that I have learnt a huge amount of new things.

My workmates are kind, helpful and communicative. There is always someone who can help. I think it is great that the group is so diverse regarding both the age and background and skills and experience!

The best thing in my job is versatility and unexpectedness!

My career path

Achievements to date

2012
Vocational qualification in electrical engineering

I completed a triple qualification and graduated from the Vocational School of Rovaniemi. I wanted to become an electrician, since I didn’t want to select a traditionally female-dominated occupation – I bought a nameplate for myself already when going to the elementary school.

2012
Summer job as a maintenance electrician

I got a summer job and internship at the Kittilä gold mine. It was in this period that I really became interested in the process industry and decided to study process technology in the future.

2014
Process technology student at the University of Oulu

After my military service, I started to study process technology at the University of Oulu. After completing bachelor studies, I selected automation technology as my specialist option. During the final period of my studies, I worked at Oulun Energia, where I was involved in electrical and automation engineering and also completed my Master's Thesis.

2019
Master of Science

I graduated as Master of Science in Process Technology from the University of Oulu in 2019. As my thesis, I completed a study dealing with the pre-examination of the automation system rebuild of the Merikoski power plant.

2019
Junior Automation Designer at Pinja

In autumn 2019, I started as a Junior Automation Designer at Pinja. I take part in the Stora Enso rebuild project, in which the Oulu mill will be converted from a paper mill to a cardboard mill. My work in this project consists of many different electrical engineering tasks ranging from circuit diagrams to requests for quotation. Mill visits every now and then give nice variety to workdays.

Tiedonjanoiselle ja kehityshaluiselle ihmiselle, kuten minä, Pinja tarjoaa hyvän ympäristön uuden oppimiseen.
